LYPA Rider of the Week: Logan Kennedy

5 Quick Questions:

Q: How did you get into riding?

I got into riding before I could walk. My daddy bought my first horse when I was 6 months old. Between my dad and my pawpaw, they both taught me how to ride and about the great lessons that horses can bring into your life.

Q:Do you have a good luck charm?

When I ride, I never forget my lucky charms. My pawpaw died when I was 16 and my dad recently passed. They both accompanied me to every rodeo I went to and they will continue to ride with me as my angels.

Q:Why do you ride?

I ride because of the passion and love that I have for my horse and the sport. I’ve never felt so empowered than I do when I ride. I know that when i’m on my horse, the world is a beautiful place and that God is so great.

Q:How do you calm those pesky show nerves?

Like every rider, we all get nervous. I calm my nerves through prayer. Wherever I am, I pray and then I know that whatever happens in the arena, I will give all glory to God.

Q: What’s the best piece of horse advice you’ve been given?

I’ve been given a lot of advice from other riders in my lifetime. If I had to choose the wisest advice from someone, it would have been from Sarah Laborde. She told me that wherever I go in life, my dreams are never too wild or crazy to fulfill. I make my own destiny and if I want to be a great rider, I have to be the one to work hard and put in the time and effort into practicing and bonding with my horses.
