BIO
“My name is Mikayla Van Boven, born in January of 2001 and raised in the small town of Grants Pass, Oregon. I have been riding since I was Eight years old, when I discovered my love for the Equine lifestyle. When I received my Paint Mare, Quinney, in 2010, I began to ride competitively at local barrel races and playdays. My competitive nature grew as I did, and once I reached the beginning of my High School years at Hidden Valley High School, I rode and competed with the Equestrian Team. Since then, I have qualified for State all three years, and have also qualified for Regionals the past two years. My goal for my Senior year is to qualify and compete at Regionals once more, then move on to college-level equestrian events after.
My role model, who also happens to be my trainer, is a woman by the name of Jenny Hull. I aspire to be like her because she is knowledgeable, kind, patient, and humble. She loves to pass on her abundance of knowledge to those willing and wanting to learn. Jenny has had a major impact on my Barrel Racing Career and continues to help me become a better horsewoman.”
