BIO
“My name is Kassidy and I am 14 years old. I currently own two horses. Cowgirl Joe aka CJ is a 2001 APH mare and JH Celestial Smoke aka Sky is a 2004 AQH mare. We compete in District 3 Idaho High School Rodeo, NBHA, and rodeos across central Idaho in breakaway roping, barrel racing, and pole bending. I am also the 2019 Valley County Rodeo Jr. Queen.
I have always loved horses; they were a phase that I never grew out of. When I bought CJ in 2013, I was just a girl happy to have a horse. She has brought be further than anyone expected her to. I competed in 4-H with her for several years. We had our ups and down, but then we started to see eye to eye. She knew whatever I was asking for in my improvised ways, and I know what she was going to do before she did it. 2018 was our year. But due to past injuries, we soon had to accept the fact that she couldn’t compete in barrels and poles so extensively. And because of her past experience in roping, I decided to give breakaway a try. Sky came into the picture in July 2018. We had looked around for a barrel horse that might be fitting for me, but we just couldn’t find the right one. One of our friends found her ad and was surprised that she was still for sale. She was just what we needed. And she fit my back burner preferences: mare please and no sorrels. The first time I competed on her in a rodeo, we won the Senior Reserve Champion Pole Bender buckle. But unfortunately, we went down hill from there. Broken pattern after broken pattern, I learned her style. Sky and CJ are polar opposites, not helping much that I had ridden CJ for five years. And towards the end of fall, we got ourselves together and started pulling checks. My advice to anyone is to listen to what everyone has to say. My family is far from a rodeo family. And because of that, so many people given me advice and helped me. This has taught me to take what people give, and pick out what works best with trial and error.”
