BIO

My name is Jessica Elquist, I live in Teton Valley. I started riding horses since before I could remember. I started to rodeo when I was about 6. I started on Barrels on my dads rope horse Pokey, who is now one of my favorite horses. Pokey taught me how to ride and basically how to train a horse to barrel race, who hates to do anything but rope. When I was about 11 we bought the barrel horse I run now, Keilee. She runs Barrels, Poles, and is learning to heel. Savvy is my head horse who works both ends but I head on. I run Barrels, Poles, breakaway rope, and team rope. I also jump but I don’t compete in competition. Some of my accomplishments are: 1st place Teton Valley Rodeo Barrel Racing and Pole Bending, 2nd place Barrel Racing JHR. Just being able to compete in the WTRC in Billings MT, 1st place District 7 rodeo Barrel Racing, 3rd place pole bending district 7, and 13th overall Barrel Racing and Pole Bending in Junior High Finals-Idaho. One of my goals is to compete in the IMPRA. My heros in rodeo are Sherry Cervi, Sadee Kreikemeier, and my dad. Sherry is always consistent and makes it all look so easy. Sadee could be my second mom. She’s so amazing with all her animals and has definitely helped me with my horses. My dad has taught me everything I know about horses. I am so lucky to be able to have family and friends behind me in rodeo and to be able to compete at least once a week with the people I love.
