BIO
“Hello, my name is April King. I am 17 years old and finishing out my senior year of high school. Four years ago my dad passed away and shortly after I found my passion for horses, which ended up being my saving grace. When I first started riding, I leased along with showed a small paint pony named “”Zeus”” who loved to buck whenever he cantered. After my first year in “”New Horizons”” 4-H club I thought it was time to move up so I bought my first horse. With only a one income family, I took the money I have saved and purchased my best friend, Duncan.
Over the last two years I have been training Duncan in barrel racing, roping, contesting, and pretty much anything you could think of. Many nights I stay awake to watch some of my inspirations like Fallon Taylor, Amberely Snyder, and Stacey Westfall on video to find different tips or workouts to do with my horse. My horse and I have participated in fun shows and 4-H but soon we will be adding rodeos to the list. When I first started training my horse I focused on going slow and correct but now we are working speed along with consistency.I have worked on ground work, desensitizing, bending/ flexing, lead changes, roll backs, spins, and much more. These things teach him and I to have patience along with respect for one another.”
