✨5 Ways to Get Accepted: Lakota Young Professionals Association✨

So you want to be a Lakota Young Professional??

Horse Images

Currently hosting around 725 members, the Lakota Young Professionals Association is continuing to grow rapidly in a short amount of time. Sorting through the hundreds of applications we have received since the launch of the LYPA in September 2016, we have come up with a few things that make some applicants stand out above the others.

✨5 Ways to Get Accepted:

1.Fill in all personal information accurately.

These include:
– Spelling your name correctly. (Really!)
– Typing in your home address correctly. (This is where your patch gets delivered, so it’s important!)
– Giving the correct email address where you are able to be reached.

All of these things are important for communicating with you as LYPA members, and getting your Lakota patches to the right place.

2.Take your time!

The Bio portion of the application is for us here at Lakota and the other LYPA members to get to know more about you using your profile! We love reading through them, so please add things like:
– How long you’ve been riding
– Who your role models are in the horse world
– Even tell us about your horse!

Don’t be afraid to write too much…there’s no such thing!

3.*Photos*

Please attach photos in .jpeg format! Also, please make sure your picture is appropriate, (i.e. No dog filter SnapChat selfies.) Treat this as if corporate businesses in the horse world will be looking, because they will be!

4.Use a desktop computer.

The mobile version of the Lakota Trailers website is awesome to scroll through on your phone (Just check out some of our 3D trailer tours!) However, it is unable to submit your application. So to avoid any frustration, please use a desktop computer or laptop to submit it!

5.PLEASE be patient.

Lakota is just as excited as you are you get your application processed, but it may take a few days. The minute you are accepted, you will receive an email!

LYPA Rider of the Week: Raelee Taylor

LYPA Rider of the Week: Raelee Taylor

Horse Images

“Rider of the Week is not about how many events you go to or how great of a rider you may be. To be a Rider of the Week, I believe that one should show sportsmanship, passion and overall show how great the horse life can be!” -Raelee Taylor

5 Quick Questions:

Q: How did you get into riding?

Well, I would have to say my grandfather. He rode bulls in his younger days. I never grew up around horses but when I was, say about 10, he got me a horse. She was a phenomenal, old gruella mare! I started off with local 4-H showing and gaming, and did a local rodeo association that year. Since then I have always loved horses. Without my grandfather, I think I would be lost. This year he has really pushed me and has always hauled me since the showing days. He has a lot of connections with great local trainers so they help me a lot, thanks to him.

Q:Do you have a good luck charm?

You bet I have a good luck charm. Its a cross pendant with the NFR number tag on it, it reminds me to never give up and trust the Lord. I have actually ran without it once and we hit a barrel along with 4 poles and our goat got up after a face full of dirt. Since that day I make sure that is the first thing I pack!

Q:Why do you ride?

I ride because it makes me feel like a better person. Not to mention it makes my grandpa extremely happy! Being on the back of a horse or even going into a arena can teach you so much. I have learned so much about myself and about animals from riding. The feeling riding a horse is really hard to explain. I ride because when I look at my filly, I see hopes and dreams.

Q:How do you calm those pesky show nerves?

I calm my nerves in many ways. My first resort is to not listen to any times the announcer says, for some reason when I do hear times I get really stressed and worked up. If I do manage to get all nervous and shaky, I stretch. It really relaxes my muscles and feels great! Shaking my feet like windshield wipers works too. Just slip your feet out of your stirrups and go nice and slow! Sounds weird but that also loosens your legs up if you are not wanting to get off your horse!

Q: What’s the best piece of horse advice you’ve been given?

Oh goodness .. I have been given so many words and advice this past year. One that I probably say in my head at least 9 times a day would be, “repetition, repetition, repetition”. Doing things over and over really helps, and eventually you gain muscle memory. Having that muscle memory will save you in and out of the arena.

LYPA Rider of the Week: Kenzie McAlister

LYPA Rider of the Week: Kenzie McAlister

Horse Images

Kenzie was one of our first 80 members of the Lakota Young Professionals Association, learn more about her journey below!

5 Quick Questions:

Q: How did you get into riding?

I got into riding thanks to my family. My pawpaw, Toxie, had always had horses and he always had me on a horse. He taught me the fundamentals of barrel racing and continues to help me. My grandpa Butch also taught me how to ride and some training tips. I wouldn’t be here with out them☺️

Q:Do you have a good luck charm?

I don’t have a specific good luck charm, but I always talk to my horse when I’m getting ready to run. It makes us feel like a team…like 1 person, almost. It calms her down and that gives us both confidence. I also say a little prayer that asks to keep my horse and I safe and clean before our run, and you cant forget my RanchDressn Tie-Dye pants? Those give me a boost of confidence, since I know I’m almost always the only one wearing those!!

Q:Why do you ride?

I ride for those who can’t ride. There’s people out there who would do anything to swing a leg over a horse. I have that exact opportunity every single day. My friends at school think I’m a rockstar for riding a horse at 30 MPH at a metal barrel. So, they are my reminder that this could be different. I could be hurt or not have a horse. I wish every body could ride or at-least own a horse, but unfortunately that’s not how it goes. This is just a constant reminder to me.

Q:How do you calm those pesky show nerves?

I don’t always calm my show nerves completely down. I tell myself that it’s going to be ok and I get my mind off of it by talking to a family member or a friend there. I also just watch. It keeps my mind on what I need to do to successfully be placed higher.

Q: What’s the best piece of horse advice you’ve been given?

The piece of advice that sticks with me from a horseman is from Fallon Taylor. She has always been an idol to me, and when she said this it just seemed to be burnt in my brain: “The world is your alley way, so you better prance”. It’s not big “advice” but it taught me to stand out and be proud of my horse and I. Every time I see someone glaring at my clothes, horse, or trailer I just repeat this little piece of wisdom and it brings a smile to my face. The second piece of advice I got is, listen to your horse. I don’t know who I heard this from, but it has changed the way I look at my horse. The advice stated:
“It’s not a blinged out, shiny saddle. It isn’t a special blanket, and those aren’t the name brand SMBs, but my horse is comfortable. Listen to your horse, watch their body language. Listen and see if your horse is worried or anxious.” This piece made me start looking deeper into my horse and making sure she was comfortable.

LYPA Rider of the Week: Sarah Nelson

LYPA Rider of the Week: Sarah Nelson

Horse Images

A college student who always makes time for riding, Sarah Nelson is a tenacious rider who always encourages others to be the best they can be, and is always willing to give help to those who need advice or riding tips!

5 Quick Questions:

Q: How did you get into riding?

I started riding before I could even walk and then had to force my parents into letting start taking lessons and from then on, I was hooked!

Q:Do you have a good luck charm?

My best friend made me a cross pendent made out of horseshoe nails. Ever since I put it on, it has brought me good luck! I also have a pair of lucky socks… lol

Q:Why do you ride?

I ride because it makes me feel proud of myself. It is the most freeing, fleeting feeling in the world.

Q:How do you calm those pesky show nerves?

I have been rodeoing for a while so I don’t get as nervous as I used to. Before barrels and breakaway, I listen to music that gets me super pumped up and before goats, I can’t listen to music because I have to stay calm so I don’t face plant lol

Q: What’s the best piece of horse advice you’ve been given?

The best advice that I ever got was from my dad. When I was 6, my horse took off with me and I almost fell off. When I finally got my horse to stop, I got off and my dad told me that if I got off right then, I would never get back on again. When you’re scared, get back on and face your fears.
